Anita Ekberg

Marianne Ekberg (Swedish pronunciation (listen) 29 September 1931 - 11 January
2015) was an Swedish actress active in American and European films, famous for
her beauty and stunning silhouette. She became prominent in her role in the
role of Sylvia in the Federico Fellini film La Dolce Vita (1960). Ekberg worked
primarily in Italy and became permanent residence in 1964.Anita Ekberg was born
on 29 September 1931, in (Sweden), the eighth child in a family of eight. Anita
was a fashion model in her teens. Ekberg, at the urging of her mother, in 1950
she entered Miss Malmo. She won the Miss Sweden contest. Despite speaking
little English, Ekberg went to the United States to compete in the Miss
Universe 1951 title. This was an non-official pageant at the time. The pageant
was officially made official in 1952. Ekberg did not win the title of Miss
Universe winner, but she was one of six contestants. She did however earn an
agreement with Universal Studios as a starlet. As a starlet at Universal, she
received lessons in drama, elocution, horses, dancing and fencing. The film she
appeared in was The Mississippi Gambler (1953), Abbott and Costello (as a woman
on Venus), Take Me to Town (1853), and The Golden Blade (1953).
