Amy Carlson

Amy Carlson was born in Glen Ellyn in Illinois and spent her childhood in Chicago. Amy was a resident of Glen Ellyn the city of Illinois, up until she entered junior college. Her family also resided in the Middle East, where her parents, Bob (and Barb) taught at the American School. Amy is the sister Betsy, Lori, and brother Joe. Amy has traveled throughout Europe both with her family as well as alone. Because her parents worked as teachers who taught, they could spend the entire summer traveling and camping across the United States. They've stayed in every state, with the exception of Alaska. Amy was in Rwanda for aid with efforts to aid in the aftermath of the 1994 war. Amy was a gifted actor in school plays and also won writing contests. In high school she was a promising athlete who placed in the first ever 3200-meter relay in the Illinois girls track. After sustaining an injury, she went back to university and performed in a variety of roles on the stage, starting with Lanford Wilson’s “Fifth of July” and then directed Wallace Shawn’s “Aunt Dan and Lemon. Amy attended Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois where she earned her in cum laude. She graduated with a B.A. East Asian history, with a concentration in Theater. She relocated to Chicago afterward and studied Improv at the Improv Olympic and then acting in the theater at The Actor's Center. Following graduation she was offered a contract job as an actress on the soap series Another World (1964). In the category of "Outstanding supporting actress in the Daytime Drama Series", she was nominated for Daytime Emmy Awards. Her most memorable roles are those played by women of strength, such as Alex Taylor in Third Watch (1999), Maggie Pistone ((2000)), Katie Owen and Tom Berenger in Peacemakers(2003) and Linda Reagan in Blue Bloods(2003). Carlson lives in New York City, with Syd Butler as her husband, and is the bassist for Les Savy Fav. She also owns Frenchkiss Records, an independent music label, and serves as part-owner. Amy is still working on films and write.
