The birth of DuVernay's daughter was on the 24th of August 1972 in Long Beach California. DuVernay was motivated to pursue her love of art by DuVernay's aunt Denise at the age of a small girl. DuVernay discovered a passion for the field of broadcast journalism while a student. She was an intern with CBS News at the time of O.J. Simpson Trial. DuVernay was appointed to look-out and search for the house for a specific juror. When she was dissatisfied with journalism by the tasks she was assigned she decided to pursue a career in publicity. DuVernay began her career as a junior publicity assistant at a small film studio shortly after she graduated from college. She founded The DuVernay Agency, her company for public relations in 1999. The company launched a number of promotions and lifestyle channels which include Urban Beauty Collective and Urban Eye.
